Volunteer Finance & Accounting Advisor
Girls Ment To Be is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls ages 7–17 through mentorship and support. They are seeking a Volunteer Finance & Accounting Advisor to assist with financial oversight and compliance, providing advisory support to the Board Treasurer and CEO.
Non-profit Organization Management
Responsibilities
Review monthly income and expense reports
Support accurate categorization of donations, grants, and program expenses
Assist with bookkeeping system setup or review (e.g., QuickBooks, Wave)
Flag discrepancies or potential compliance concerns
Support preparation and review of IRS Form 990 / 990-EZ
Help ensure state and federal nonprofit compliance
Coordinate with an external CPA, if applicable
Assist with annual operating and program budgets
Support budgeting for events, workshops, and fundraising initiatives
Help forecast cash flow and long-term sustainability
Prepare simple financial summaries for board meetings
Serve as a resource to the Board Treasurer for financial questions
Advise on internal controls and best practices (advisory only)
Qualification
Required
Background in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or financial management
Strong attention to detail and high integrity
Comfortable collaborating with board leadership and executive leadership
Preferred
CPA, accountant, finance professional, or experienced bookkeeper preferred
Familiarity with nonprofit finance (or willingness to learn)
