Responsibilities

Safeguarding all personnel and equipment in the work area at all times
Perform s any of the duties of an EEC&M “B” classification
Performs other related or lesser skilled duties for which the employee is qualified
Maintaining a high standard of good housekeeping during and upon completion of all assigned tasks
Completing neat and accurate records, reports, and time-reporting documents
Performing duties such as; installing, testing, maintaining, repairing and operating, circuit breakers, transformers, capacitors, regulators, batteries, relays, meters, control equipment, telemetering, supervisory control equipment, public address systems, and other related equipment in substations, power plants, or other electrical facilities; wiring energized panels; operating phasing sticks; inspecting substations, making inspections of equipment, control buildings and yards, observing and recording circuit and equipment loads and data, completing substation reports including logs, operating reports, relay targets, and apparatus trouble reports; performing routine inspections of work performed by contractors; operating small bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment
Locating, diagnosing, and correcting electrical troubles of limited complexity in circuits and equipment
Performing preventive and corrective maintenance activities utilizing test equipment such as relay tests sets, multimeters, ohmmeters and microohmmeters, circuit breaker analyzers, combustible gas analyzers, timers, Profiler testers, meggers, circuit analyzers, TTR’s, battery testers, capacitor testers, Hi-Pot testers, Ground Resistance testers, TCG Testers, and other similar test equipment
Periodically testing, calibrating, troubleshooting and adjusting various types of induction relays such as differential, ground, reverse power, directional overcurrent, negative sequence, ground directional overcurrent, overcurrent, under/overvoltage relays, and transformer sudden pressure and temperature relays; replacing worn or defective parts and cleaning and realigning contacts, as required; performing functional tests on induction relays when utilized on Distribution circuits; performing calibration and functional tests on static and microprocessor relays of limited complexity on Distribution circuits; testing and adjusting associated auxiliary equipment
Periodically testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and renewing parts on feeder voltage regulating primary and secondary relays and line drop compensators
Performing initial acceptance and initial calibration tests on various new induction relays of limited complexity, such as overcurrent and under/overvoltage relays
Testing, repairing, and maintaining substation remote alarms and equipment
Performing switching operations; reporting to the appropriate Dispatcher any abnormal or unusual conditions found
Under directive supervision and as assigned: Installs, tests, calibrates, operates and maintains all types of protective relays and types of electrical circuits used in conjunction with relaying, automatic controls and other relay related electrical equipment
Under close supervision and as assigned: Performs transmission switching and distribution switching
Using common hand tools and basic power tools; removing and replacing wires, covers, panels, doors, barriers and insulation, as necessary, to gain access to the work area during construction, maintenance or troubleshooting activities
Assisting Commissioning Engineering when checking electrical apparatus and new installations; tracing and identifying circuits; calibrating and adjusting protective relays and regulating apparatus; preparing reports and recording test data
Adding, removing, replacing, correcting and changing wiring in AC and DC distribution and control circuits
Knowing, understanding and following all Company and Departmental safety rules and practices as outlined in the Accident Prevention Handbook, and all operating and maintenance procedures and practices included in the Substation Preferred Practices and Methods manual, the Substation Relay Preferred Practices and Methods manual, and in the Manual of Operations
Becoming familiar with substation circuits, equipment, operations and controls, types of protective relay schemes, and methods of testing
Completing all required Job Skill Demonstrations and progressional tests to qualify for promotion to the Substation Relay Tester classification

Required

Must meet the Company's requirements as to the General Qualifications, and in addition:
Must have an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or the educational and/or experience related equivalent
Valid PA Operator's License or equivalent required
Must have demonstrated significant electrical and mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with small, delicate, and complex equipment
Must be able to analyze electrical control and protection problems and be accurate in his work
Must have passed qualifying examinations

Preferred

At least 2 years of related experience is preferred
