CAD Engineer
Aerothreads is an aerospace manufacturing company specializing in high-performance Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) blanket systems and thermal solutions for space and defense applications. The CAD Engineer will lead and support the design, validation, and implementation of MLI blanket systems, developing detailed CAD models and drawings while ensuring designs are feasible and compliant with program requirements.
Responsibilities
Develop detailed 3D models, flat patterns, and technical drawings in Creo CAD software based on specifications and engineering requirements
Perform complex modeling and drawing updates, including configuration changes and design revisions
Lead design projects from concept through release
Lead and support Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR)
Ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with quality and production standards
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and supporting design data
Maintain and improve system designs by preparing layouts, modifying existing designs, and identifying design discrepancies
Support manufacturing and production teams by troubleshooting design issues and answering technical questions
Apply analytical techniques and engineering tools to resolve complex or non-routine design challenges
Automate and standardize CAD workflows through templates, best practices, and process improvements
Develop and contribute to production procedures, design standards, and continuous improvement initiatives
Provide guidance on technical requirements, schedules, and deliverables to internal stakeholders
Mentor junior CAD designers and serve as a technical resource across the design team
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
5+ years of CAD engineering or design experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Strong proficiency with Creo CAD software (preferred) or equivalent CAD platforms such as SolidWorks
Experience using Windchill or similar PLM systems in a configuration-controlled environment
Experience leading design efforts and participating in formal design reviews
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
Preferred
Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred
