Responsibilities
Lead the migration of SQL Server databases to Microsoft Azure, including assessments, execution, and validation
Administer and optimize SQL Server instances in Azure, both on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Databases
Implement and manage AlwaysOn Availability Groups to support high availability and disaster recovery
Perform daily database tasks including monitoring, performance tuning, backups, and patching
Work closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure a secure and performant database environment
Review and continuously improve backup and DR strategies
Support the client’s DevOps practices, using tools like Azure DevOps and Visual Studio Team Services for versioning and deployment workflows
Qualification
Required
7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in complex, enterprise environments
Demonstrated experience migrating SQL Server workloads to Azure
In-depth knowledge of SQL Server 2016+, including performance tuning, T-SQL, and query optimization
Experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups in production environments
Experience managing both Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure VMs
Familiarity with CI/CD tools, such as Azure DevOps or TFS
Ability to troubleshoot performance issues and ensure optimal database health and uptime
Strong communication skills and comfort working in distributed teams
Preferred
Experience with SQL Replication, Service Broker, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS
Familiarity with PowerShell or Azure CLI scripting
Experience with containerized database workloads (e.g., Docker + SQL Server)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
