Quality Systems Engineer

DirectPath Recruiting Services is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer / Quality Program Lead to support manufacturing operations and customer programs in an automotive environment. This role serves as the technical bridge between Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality, ensuring robust quality systems and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Apply and maintain compliance with the Quality Management System (IATF 16949) on a daily basis across manufacturing and engineering operations
Serve as the technical liaison between Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Sales, and Purchasing to ensure alignment on quality requirements, procedures, and corrective actions
Lead the identification, tracking, root cause analysis, and resolution of quality issues, including customer complaints and internal non-conformances
Own and lead APQP activities from concept through launch, ensuring quality readiness and first-time capability
Develop, review, and maintain Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, DCPs, and inspection documentation
Lead and manage PPAP submissions for new and modified products, including prototype and pre-production builds (PPPS)
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and ECNs to ensure quality, reliability, and change control compliance
Evaluate engineering designs to ensure manufacturability, first-pass yield, and superior part quality
Conduct and analyze process capability studies (Cp, Cpk, Ppk) and utilize SPC and Minitab to monitor and reduce variation
Provide metrology guidance and support manufacturing with inspection methods, measurement systems, and gaging requirements
Lead customer complaint resolution, including customer portal navigation, corrective actions, and follow-up on product trials
Support and participate in internal, customer, and external quality audits
Train and mentor Quality Assurance personnel, inspectors, and manufacturing teams on quality tools, processes, and equipment
Support prototype and launch quality activities to ensure customer requirements are met prior to production release
Manage quality hold areas and disposition non-conforming material in accordance with company and customer requirements
Collaborate with engineering to define and review safety-critical and special characteristics
Act as a direct interface with plant leadership and management to coordinate and resolve high-impact quality issues
Support the continuous improvement, maintenance, and enhancement of the overall Quality Management System

Required

Experience as a Quality Engineer / Quality Program Lead
Experience in an automotive environment
Knowledge of Quality Management System (IATF 16949)
Ability to serve as a technical liaison between Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Sales, and Purchasing
Experience in identifying, tracking, root cause analysis, and resolution of quality issues
Experience leading APQP activities from concept through launch
Ability to develop, review, and maintain Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, DCPs, and inspection documentation
Experience managing PPAP submissions for new and modified products
Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, and ECNs for quality compliance
Experience evaluating engineering designs for manufacturability and part quality

Preferred

Automotive manufacturing experience (Tier 1 or Tier 2)
Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, ECNs
Experience working directly with OEM customers and suppliers
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Lean Six Sigma experience
