Responsibilities

Develop, modify, and implement automation software, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety rules, and development guidelines

Conduct functional and risk analyses with design stakeholders, documenting findings and creating technical project documentation

Support troubleshooting efforts and provide technical expertise to personnel when issues exceed their scope of knowledge

Research, evaluate, and propose new technologies or supplier innovations that enhance system performance and reliability

Train company personnel on new automation functions, provide technical support in the field, and travel up to 50% (sometimes on short notice)

Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Proficiency in PLC and motion control programming (B&R, Rockwell Studio 500, Siemens)

Skilled in software design using Structured Text, Ladder Logic, and Function Block in Automation Studio (B&R)

Knowledge of safety standards and tools, including NFPA 79, Safety Automation Builder, and SISTEMA for risk assessments and circuit safety reviews

Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and lead or collaborate within cross-disciplinary teams

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective technical documentation, collaboration, and training

Must be able to communicate in English with regards to the essential functions of the position

BS in Electrical Engineering or 2-5 years of appropriate work experience (filling machines or packaging machinery)

Prior experience troubleshooting industrial control systems, such as B&R controllers, variable frequency drives, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, process instrumentation, and 480VAC electrical control equipment is required

Out-of-town and overnight travel, both local and international travel is required for business and education, by air and or auto

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to bend, kneel, walk or sit for extended periods of time

The ability to reach above head and below knees is also required
