Responsibilities
Own design direction for major cross-functional initiatives, managing scope, priorities, and design outcomes
Coordinate and align design work across multiple teams, ensuring consistency, quality, and timely delivery
Partner closely with Product and Engineering to shape strategy and tradeoffs
Delegate design work to other designers while maintaining accountability for quality, cohesion, and timelines
Serve as the primary design voice in project leadership forums, planning sessions, and reviews
Establish project-specific design processes and working agreements to support successful delivery
Manage stakeholder communication and expectation-setting for high-visibility initiatives
Identify, stabilize, and unblock struggling projects through decisive design leadership and scope refinement
Actively work within and uphold the design system, ensuring solutions align with established patterns, components, and standards
Partner with the Design System team to identify gaps, propose improvements, and contribute patterns or components as part of project delivery
Balance system adherence with thoughtful extension, knowing when to leverage existing components versus when to evolve the system
Advocate for design system usage in cross-functional forums, helping Product and Engineering partners understand system constraints, benefits, and tradeoffs
Provide clear, actionable design critique to other designers, ensuring work meets quality, usability, and system standards
Review and assess design work for completeness, strategic alignment, and execution quality before it reaches stakeholders
Identify gaps in problem framing, thinking, or system alignment and course-correct early to avoid downstream rework
Uphold a high quality bar by giving direct feedback and making final design decisions when needed
Qualification
Required
5–7+ years of product design experience, including leadership on complex, cross-functional initiatives
Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and make clear, defensible recommendations
Strong collaboration skills with Product, Engineering, and operational partners
Experience coordinating multiple designers or workstreams
Proven experience working within and contributing to a production design system in partnership with engineering
Comfort owning outcomes, not just deliverables
Portfolio that demonstrates both design quality and successful delivery of complex work at scale
