Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in environmental health, sanitation, biological science or related field and letter of approval from the California State Department of Health Services to enter the Environmental Health Specialist training program
California Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist
One (1) year of environmental health experience
Three (3) years of professional environmental health experience with at least one (1) year equivalent to the Environmental Health Specialist II
The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment
Possess California Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist before progression to the II level and maintain throughout employment
Maintain professional development and continuing education activities as required to maintain valid certifications required for this position
May be required to work extended hours or be called-back in emergency situations
Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire
DMV printout prior to hire
Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109

Preferred

Some demonstrated experience in the environmental health field in a paid, intern or volunteer capacity
Two (2) years of professional level environmental health experience in a public agency
An advanced degree with major coursework as defined above and up to four (4) years of professional environmental health experience equivalent to the County's class of Environmental Health Specialist II
