Responsibilities
Utilizes laboratory computer systems to document all actions taken concerning patient and quality control testing
Performs laboratory testing following laboratory policies and procedures
Performs and documents instrument calibrations following manufacturers’ guidelines
Performs routine preventative maintenance following laboratory policies and procedures and manufacturers’ guidelines
Performs quality control testing as required in laboratory policies and procedures. All remedial actions taken for out-of-control results will be documented
Performs STAT testing promptly and can organize testing priorities during heavy workload situations to expedite patient testing results
Relays Panic Values to the ordering service and documents all actions taken
Follows laboratory safety policies and procedures, including Standard Precautions
Performs venous and arterial puncture to obtain specimens for laboratory testing
Maintains a clean work area and adequate supplies and reagents
Assists in researching and implementing new testing procedures
Assists in the training and supervision of Laboratory Assistants
Supervises lab assistants and phlebotomists on weekends and after office hours
Other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualification
Required
2-3 years of experience in a core lab setting (including microbiology and blood bank)
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
Good manual dexterity and ability to follow instructions
Four-year college degree
Valid Clinical Laboratory License issued by the State of California Department of Health Services is required
