The role involves performing technical, administrative, and skilled work in the operation of a water utility facility, ensuring compliance of backflow assemblies and managing utility construction crews.

Responsibilities
Assists the Public Utilities Cross Connection and Hydrant Meter Program with the following field activities:
Conducting site surveys to determine facility hazards and the location of approved backflow assemblies
Delivering CC Notices of Violation and working with non-compliant customers; assist in conducting CC Orientation and Backflow Certification schools for outside contractors
Assembling, repairing, and testing hydrant meter rental units
Assists the Public Utilities Cross Connection and Hydrant Meter Program with the following office activities:
Maintaining CC database, troubleshooting and resolving errors in database through research in CC&B, Wake Gov, PUMA, and other internet sources
Receiving, processing, and responding to customer inquiries and complaints concerning testing letters and installation requirements. Additionally receives and processes completed test reports
Notifying customers of failed reports, assisting with non-compliant customers, and assisting with Certified Tester information and documentation of assemblies
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 3 to 5 years' experience in water/wastewater infrastructure inspection, maintenance/repair or related work, such as: Construction: site work, plumber, and utility construction (including fiber installation) and troubleshooting issues, Landscaping: installer, maintenance, irrigation, Mechanic: HVAC, hydraulic systems, Utility Inspector, Tech School Student: mechanical
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Preferred
Cross Connection or Distribution System experience
Backflow Certification and Cross Connection Control ORC Certification, or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire
Water Distribution Level C Certification, or the ability to obtain within 3 years of hire
