Social Media and Community Engagement Coordinator

Careers In Nonprofits is seeking a Social Media Coordinator/Community Engagement Associate for an Animal Shelter in Oakland, CA. The role involves crafting engaging digital content, executing content strategies, and maintaining story-sharing processes to highlight the organization's impact.

Responsibilities

Develops and executes content strategy across a range of mediums (e.g., social media, website, etc.) with a specific focus on Instagram and Facebook content
Partners across the organization to establish and maintain easy and sustainable story-sharing processes with key stakeholders, a means of tracking and reviewing potential stories, and identification/assignment of stories and supporting data to appropriate channels
Support and attend marketing, development, and other community events as needed to capture content and engage potential adopters
Assists in the development and sending of biweekly Pupdate internal e-news to staff, tracking its effectiveness and proactively seeking opportunities for greater engagement. Supports additional internal communications as needed
Collaborates with the marketing/communications team to provide and request visual assets from them
Supports responding to customer inquiries on business and social media accounts, including but not limited to Yelp, Google, LinkedIn, etc
Ensure the organization’s mission and brand are consistent and present in all work, including management of the brand style guide
Stay abreast of communications and direct marketing trends, as well as those within the animal welfare space. Bring updated best practices and recommendations to the team on a regular basis

Required

Experience in video and photo capture and editing, including the creation of video across a range of social platforms
Expertise in website strategy, content management (e.g., WordPress), utilizing digital media, social media platforms, and other online communication tools
Strong storytelling skills, with attention to detail for ensuring consistent, accurate, high-quality content across platforms and for a diverse audience
Experience using creative design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and social media management tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite)
Knowledge of and experience in a business setting with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp, from developing templates to analytics
Must be able to work directly with dogs and cats

Preferred

Work experience in the nonprofit sector preferred
Familiarity with animal welfare is a plus
