Search Engine Optimization Manager
Freeman+Leonard is seeking an SEO Manager for a retail consumer goods client. The role involves leading the organic search strategy across a multi-brand portfolio and building an in-house SEO center of excellence while transitioning from an agency-led model.
Responsibilities
Own SEO strategy, roadmap, and prioritization across a multi-brand portfolio
Hire, lead, and manage 1–2 SEO specialists
Stay current on search engine algorithm updates, platform changes, and SEO best practices
Lead AI Search and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) initiatives to ensure strong visibility across emerging AI-driven search and discovery platforms
Continuously analyze and optimize rankings, keywords, internal and external linking, content performance, technical SEO, and competitive landscape
Partner cross-functionally with content, copywriting, engineering, site architecture, tagging, social, and link-building teams to ensure all efforts align with SEO best practices
Support product and category teams with SEO recommendations and ongoing optimization strategies
Own reporting and performance tracking for organic search initiatives and outcomes
Ensure high-quality, optimized on-site content, including metadata, category pages, articles, and blogs
Conduct regular site audits and lead improvements to technical SEO, crawlability, indexing, and site structure
Identify and remove technical and structural barriers that limit search engine visibility
Build, evaluate, and scale internal and external link-building strategies
Monitor competitor strategies to identify new tactics and opportunities
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field
6–9+ years of hands-on SEO experience in complex, multi-site or multi-brand environments
Deep understanding of how search engines crawl, index, and rank content, including international considerations
Strong experience with tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and similar platforms
Advanced skills in keyword research, competitive analysis, and performance reporting
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and technical site architecture (strong plus)
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into insights and action
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High comfort level with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Preferred
