NEOGOV is seeking a Director of Historic Preservation for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH). The Director will be responsible for overseeing the Historic Preservation Division, managing strategic and operational activities, and leading initiatives that support the preservation of Mississippi's historic resources.

Responsibilities

Direct the activities of the division's various units through coordination with section heads

Formulate policies, rules, and regulations as needed to guide the division's work

Conduct long-range planning, including developing budgets, goals, and objectives, as well as plans for program improvements and new initiatives

Oversee major program activities through regular reviews and reports from subordinate supervisors

Seek and implement external grants and other funding opportunities to support the division's mission

Represent the agency through public speaking engagements and participation in meetings that advance MDAH's mission and partnerships

Exercise broad authority to establish objectives, standards, and control measures within general departmental guidelines for programs with significant statewide impact

Required

Thorough knowledge of historic preservation policies and procedures at the federal, state, and local levels

Ability to effectively lead staff in alignment with the Historic Preservation Division's role within MDAH's overall mission and vision

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to foster and sustain productive relationships with a wide range of constituents, including public officials, federal and state agencies, local governments, the MDAH Board of Trustees, architects, contractors, historic property owners and managers, and the general public

Master's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and five (5) years of related experience, four (4) of which will include functional administrative or advanced technical supervision; or a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and six (6) years of related experience, five (5) of which will include functional administrative or advanced technical supervision
