Human Resource Leave Administrator
Stony Brook University is a leading institution in higher education, and they are seeking a Human Resource Leave Administrator to manage employee leaves of absence. The role involves serving as a subject matter expert on leave policies, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and maintaining communication with employees regarding their leave status.

Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert for leaves of absence under the general guidance of HR leadership and partner with the Office of Equity and Access, Labor Relations, and the legal department as appropriate
Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws and in accordance with Stony Brook Policies and collective bargaining agreements
Independently evaluate, approve, and/or deny leave cases based on relevant medical information and eligibility criteria
Oversee all administrative aspects of the leave of absence process to include tracking hours used/taken, sending timely notifications of leave approvals or denials, and working closely with payroll to ensure that pay for employees is accurate
Assist in coordinating fit-for-duty requests for employees returning from extended leave of absences
Work closely with employees to ensure that all relevant completed medical documentation is submitted for timely review
Maintain appropriate contact with all employees on leave and coordinate all aspects of return to work for employees on leave
Collaborate with VP Coordinator (VPC), department administrators, and with employees’ supervisors on all leave cases to review leave status and develop strategies for resolution
Serves as a main point of contact for Time & Attendance related inquiries
Responsible for the audit, reconciliation, and payroll submission of timesheets
Serve as the liaison for internal and external departments with regard to leaves and time reports
Collaborate with the Workers’ Compensation Specialist on employee leaves related to accidents and injuries
Proficient in existing collective bargaining agreements as they relate to duties and responsibilities
Ensure that HIPAA and Employee privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
Two (2) years of full-time Human Resources experience
Experience handling FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, or related level programs
Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace
Preferred
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
Two (2) or more years of administering leave of absence for programs such as FMLA, Paid Family Leave, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc
Experience in public sector employment and/or higher education
Experience working with a Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and/or payroll systems
Knowledge of federal and state leave laws and regulations
