Engineer - Distributed Energy Resources

Responsibilities
Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations and requirements
Providing a high level of service, continuous support, and proactive involvement surrounding technical subject matter to leadership and peers, using standard planning and protection tools, such as Microsoft Office tools, CYME Distribution, CYME Time-Current Characteristic Current, Load Forecasting Data Management System (LFDMS), SAP, GISView, Pl Process Book, Pl Datalink, reviewing and approving circuit modifications
Providing guidance in use of Energy Delivery Operations Services systems and processes, such as: Distribution Planning Criteria; Distribution Engineering Practices; Field Guides; and Standards
Supporting an annual Engineering task, such as Capital Portfolio development and review process, Summer Readiness, Manual Load Shed, Distribution System Assessment, etc
Conducting technical research analysis and offering an interpretation of the results
Assisting in implementation activities involving complex processes and procedures
Contributing to solutions by taking initiative to develop alternatives and recommendations
Offering ideas and suggestions to improve moderately complex technical processes and/or projects
Providing sound customer service by exceeding internal customer needs
Proactively seeking ways to build challenge and add value within scope of assignments
Consistently anticipating and delivering results on a variety of job-specific subject matters
Supporting operating company personnel through webcasts, workshops, and training
Offering advice, education, and encouragement to others
Championing continuous improvement teams and/or initiatives across FirstEnergy
Integrating strategic concepts into business unit activities, providing strategic direction
Serving in a leadership role for the development of designated programs and policies
Developing process improvements and efficiencies to improve work products and processes
Directing others on technical subject matters
Supporting the storm response process as either a storm analyst, hazard dispatcher, hazard responder, or in another corporate storm role
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
Minimum of three (3) to eight (8) years' engineering work experience is required
Possess an In-depth understanding of pertinent technical products and/or services and of customer needs and expectations
Strong analytical and technical abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Teams, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels
Excellent technical analysis and technical writing abilities
Able to effectively present complex subject matter to all levels
Able to lead by example and coach others in effective decision making
Preferred
Advanced degree or certification is a plus; PE preferred
Previous experience in DER interconnection review and/or distribution planning & protection job functions
Experience with SAP, CYME, LFDMS, EMS, TOAD/SQL, and GISView a plus
