Director, Technology Operations - Global Seller Risk Monitoring

Walmart Canada is seeking a Director of Technology Operations for Global Seller Risk Monitoring. This role involves building and running global seller risk monitoring and underwriting programs to manage financial exposure, detect fraud, and strengthen trust across the seller lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Lead global seller underwriting and monitoring strategies across onboarding, identity/business verification (KYC/KYB), lifecycle reviews, enforcement, and risk remediation
Directly manage and develop a global team of seller risk professionals supporting onboarding decisions, ongoing reviews, escalations, and portfolio monitoring
Partner with second line risk oversight and Compliance teams to define risk appetite statements, governance processes, and performance health metrics; apply these guidelines to seller opportunities and interventions
Build monitoring frameworks that identify early warning signals and emerging portfolio risks, including macroeconomic and category/vertical drivers of financial exposure
Provide tailored guidance for complex or high-risk seller onboarding opportunities (e.g., large sellers, new business models, high-risk categories), including executive briefings and seller/partner discussions when appropriate
Partner with Data Science, Analytics, and Engineering to design and deploy scalable decision systems (models, rules, scorecards, dashboards, alerting, and case management tooling) to improve accuracy, speed, and consistency
Identify control opportunities for new verticals, market expansions, and product launches; ensure controls are measurable and operationally executable
Serve as the Marketplace seller risk lead with external partners, including verification vendors, payment providers/processors, acquiring bank partners, and card networks
Drive continuous improvement through post-mortems, experimentation, and measurement (approval rates, loss/fraud outcomes, false positive/negative rates, operational throughput, and seller experience)
Ensure risk programs align with evolving global regulatory, compliance, and policy requirements in partnership with Legal and Compliance

Required

10-15 years of experience in credit risk, fraud risk, underwriting, marketplace risk, or payments risk management, including experience in a large-scale marketplace, acquiring bank, payment processor, or card network ecosystem
Demonstrated first line of defense (1LOD) ownership of risk decisions and controls (onboarding, monitoring, enforcement), with strong partnership to second line oversight
5+ years of people leadership experience, including managing teams of 10+ risk professionals and building high-performing, metrics-driven operating cadences
Deep expertise in merchant/seller underwriting and financial exposure management, including dispute/chargeback dynamics, loss prevention, and portfolio monitoring
Strong analytical fluency and ability to translate data into risk decisions; experience with dashboards/BI and working knowledge of SQL and experimentation/measurement
Proven ability to influence and drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Operations, Compliance, and senior leadership in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience delivering concise executive presentations and recommendations
Experience navigating evolving regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., KYC/KYB, sanctions screening, payments rules) across jurisdictions

Preferred

Experience building automated underwriting and monitoring systems at scale (decision engines, scorecards, model cutoffs, rule management, case management)
Experience with ML-driven fraud and credit risk models, feature engineering, and model governance in partnership with data science teams
Experience with global expansion risk frameworks and operating models, including localization of controls and playbooks
Experience partnering with external stakeholders such as acquiring banks, networks, identity/KYB providers, and industry consortiums
Familiarity with marketplace trust and safety risks (e.g., counterfeit, prohibited/restricted goods, misrepresentation) and how these risks intersect with payments and financial exposure
