Family Office Controller
Ascension Search Partners is engaged to find a Family Office Controller for a respected privately held organization. This role involves building and scaling the finance and accounting function for a family office, managing comprehensive accounting, reporting, and liquidity planning while coordinating with external advisors.
Responsibilities
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting for individual family members and related entities, including trusts, foundations, real estate holdings, and investment vehicles
Own day-to-day accounting operations, including cash management, expense processing, vendor oversight, and bill pay
Partner closely with external tax advisors to deliver complete and timely tax packages, support filings, and plan for tax payments
Develop and maintain liquidity dashboards, cash forecasts, and long-range planning models to support transparency and decision-making
Monitor active and prospective investments, including capital calls, distributions, performance metrics, and cash-flow timing
Oversee real estate portfolio accounting and reporting in coordination with tax and legal advisors
Track debt obligations, accounts payable/receivable, covenant compliance, and bank reporting requirements
Perform independent review of expenses and investment activity, investigating variances or anomalies as needed
Evaluate and enhance internal controls, processes, and reporting efficiency on an ongoing basis
Serve as a primary point of contact for financial inquiries, collaborating with attorneys, tax professionals, investment partners, and other advisors
Provide proactive insights and recommendations to improve financial clarity, risk management, and operational efficiency
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
7+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, family office, private equity, financial services, or a related environment
Demonstrated ability to manage third-party advisors and drive deadlines across multiple workstreams
Strong technical accounting foundation with high attention to detail, controls, and accuracy
Comfortable operating at both strategic and executional levels—no task is 'too small'
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Service-oriented mindset with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proven judgment, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical decision-making
