American Indian Education Program Coordinator
Minnetonka Public Schools is seeking an American Indian Education Program Coordinator to support the academic success and cultural identity of American Indian students. The role involves collaborating with families, tribal communities, and staff to enhance educational programs and ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
Education
Responsibilities
Coordinate and support culturally responsive academic and enrichment programs for American Indian learners, funded through AIEA, and monitor their effectiveness
Partner with the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) to gather feedback and guide program priorities across all AIEA focus areas
Plan and facilitate cultural activities, mentorship, and leadership opportunities for students
Assist the Director of Academic Programming in meeting state and federal reporting requirements related to American Indian Education
Collaborate with district staff to review program data and identify ways to enhance support and outcomes for American Indian students
Support student growth through events that build identity, belonging, and connection
Support student attendance, engagement, and postsecondary readiness (college/career planning, scholarship navigation, cultural field trips)
Serve as a resource to AIPAC, teachers, administrators, and staff regarding Indigenous cultures, histories, and family backgrounds
Facilitate small-group and focused programming to strengthen cultural identity, belonging, and leadership skills
Monitor student academic and behavioral data to identify needs and advocate for interventions
Serve as a bridge between families and schools, sharing information about programs, services, and opportunities
Foster strong, trusting relationships with American Indian families and ensure two-way communication and advocacy
Partner with tribal governments, elders, and community organizations to ensure cultural authenticity and support for students
Welcome new American Indian families and assist with 506 Form completion and district onboarding
Partner with the Teaching & Learning Department to ensure accurate and respectful inclusion of Indigenous history, culture, and perspectives across curriculum
Contribute to professional learning on culturally responsive instruction related to Minnesota Indigenous education benchmarks
Collaborate with staff to provide culturally relevant experiential learning opportunities and college or career pathway opportunities in and out of the classroom
Collaborate with district leaders, staff, and statewide partners to strengthen support for American Indian students
Communicate with the Minnesota Department of Education’s American Indian Education Division to align services and address program needs
Participate in regional and statewide gatherings to represent the district and share best practices as it relates to American Indian Education
Performs Other Duties of a Similar Nature or Level
Qualification
Required
Post-secondary degree in a related area
Knowledge of and experience with American Indian culture, history, and contributions
At least two years of experience working with students in an educational setting
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work collaboratively, maintain positive relationships, and understand school programs
Strong written and oral communication skills
