Tax Attorney | Corporate Planning & Tax Controversy
Confidential Jobs is a professional services law firm seeking a Tax Attorney to support clients with sophisticated tax advisory and controversy matters. This role involves representing clients before federal and state taxing authorities and structuring tax-efficient corporate transactions, while collaborating with senior leadership to implement comprehensive tax strategies.
Responsibilities
Represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities in examinations, appeals, tax controversy, and litigation
Advise business owners on tax-efficient structuring of corporate transactions, including M&A, reorganizations, and international considerations
Evaluate complex tax issues, assess risk, and recommend mitigation strategies
Support the development and execution of tax planning strategies, including entity selection, Section 1202 and 199A optimization, executive compensation planning, charitable planning, and international tax compliance
Assist with quarterly and annual tax planning, modeling, and forecasting
Analyze client financial data to inform strategic recommendations
Manage assigned caseloads with a clear understanding of strategy, status, and next steps
Draft correspondence and legal submissions to federal and state agencies
Maintain accurate time tracking and ensure deadlines are consistently met
Use case management software to manage communications, documentation, billing, and workflow
Participate in strategy sessions and office hours with senior attorneys
Delegate and oversee work performed by paralegals and legal assistants
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, internal team members, and external advisors
Contribute to a healthy pipeline of client work through strong client relationships and referrals
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor required
3–8 years of relevant experience
Member in good standing of a state bar and applicable federal bars
Demonstrated experience with complex tax controversy and corporate tax planning
Strong legal writing and analytical skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Adobe tools
Preferred
Tax preparation experience preferred
