RESEARCH PROFESSIONAL II

The University of Georgia is the state’s flagship university and is seeking a Research Professional II to join the Statewide Variety Testing team. This role involves conducting cultivar evaluation experiments, operating specialized equipment, and maintaining communication with research teams to support agricultural research initiatives.

Responsibilities

In charge of operating and maintaining highly specialized equipment, including planters, combines and other harvesting equipment
Responsible for securing equipment on trailer for transporting
Programs precision planter with GPS to achieve correct spacing for plots and seeds
Ensures that weigh systems on combine are operating accurately
Utilizes research combines and harvesters to generate yield data
Performs maintenance activities on equipment
Maintains communication with farm staff, Tifton team, and Griffin variety testing staff to support research timelines
Provides consultation and institutional memory to other project staff
Provides oversight of seed packets and samples
Assists with team activities, such as seed packaging, sample analysis, and problem solving
Monitors progress of research trials, ensures crop is maintained appropriately and remedies any deficiencies
Establishes, maintains and completes field experiments
Organizes and directs tests and experiments
Proficient at reading field plans and maps
Conducts seed arrangement prior to planting
Monitors crop growth, tracks crop maturity and harvests at optimum time
Other duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
Experience with Wintersteiger planters and harvesters
Crop scouting experience, knowledge of pesticide application and ability to obtain relevant license
Ability to work independently and as part of a larger interdisciplinary team
Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
Willingness to seek information as needed

Preferred

Bachelor's degree or five years of relevant experience
