Laboratory Supervisor

Responsibilities
Establishes/monitors the department’s quality control policies and ensures documentation of all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Ensures that departmental supplies are stocked and well maintained
Correlates laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria and demonstrates appropriate understanding of the needs of patients and visitors for each specific age group. Addresses safety and psychological needs in planning or delivering care
Establishes and implements service priorities, workflow patterns; monitors workflow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services
Demonstrates the ability to evaluate departmental performance and recommends measures to improve services and quality of current methodologies
Demonstrates quality leadership by developing standards of performance, areas responsible for accountability and delegation of authority to various support personnel
Combines information with ideas from department employees in order to solve problems creatively and communicates enthusiasm and commitment to co-workers for the common goal
Reviews work performance of departmental employees and performs or assists in the performance appraisal process and competency assessments on a timely basis. Provides appropriate feedback of employee behavior and recognizes positive behavior
Communicates anticipated trends in healthcare resources (surpluses and deficits), including: Fiscal, Personnel, and Physical Plant
Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Minimum Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related science from an accredited school required
Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist under NYS Dept of Education required
Proven managerial skills required
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills essential
Strong organizational skills required
Minimum four years' experience as a Medical Technologist
Must have sufficient previous clinical laboratory experience as a Technologist
Preferred
Master's degree preferred
Certification by internship and examination from the A.S.C.P. as a registered Medical Technologist/Supervisor desired
Prior Lead or Supervisory experience preferred or holds a degree of Master of Arts or Science and has had at least two years of pertinent experience in acceptable laboratory
Computer experience desirable
