Maryland Auto Insurance seeks candidates to fill a part-time, contractual role in their Internship Program within the Underwriting Department. The Underwriting Intern will support the department in evaluating and processing personal auto insurance applications while gaining exposure to insurance operations and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

Assist underwriters in reviewing auto insurance applications for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility

Conduct basic risk analysis using underwriting guidelines and internal policies

Organize and analyze policyholder data to identify trends or discrepancies

Participate in team meetings, collaborate on underwriting, and process improvement initiatives

Help maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with Maryland Auto’s underwriting standards

Support special projects, audits, and reporting activities as assigned

Learn and apply industry concepts, regulations, and best practices

Assist in exploring and evaluating opportunities for the Underwriting Department to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to improve operational efficiency and enhance the customer experience

Conduct research on emerging AI tools, technologies, and industry trends relevant to underwriting workflows

Support small‑scale testing or analysis of AI concepts under the guidance of underwriting leadership
