Specimen Collection Technician II

Responsibilities
Greet customers appropriately and treats all customers in a courteous manner
Ensures all drug screen specimens and phlebotomy specimens are collected accurately and on time
Collects specimens according to established procedures
Responsible for completing chain of custody forms accurately
Responsible for completing requisitions accurately
Phone employers (clients) to verify test(s) ordered, discuss collection or identification issues, per established procedures
Package specimens for transport
Maintains required records and documentation
Reads, understands and complies with departmental policies, protocols and procedures: (i.e. Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Automobile policies and procedures, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual)
Maintains all appropriate PSC/Collection logs
Clerical duties: filing, maintain customer log, fax Medical Review Officer (MRO) documents as required, prepare MRO and employer (client) envelopes for mailing. May require electronic data entry
Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data. Submits data on time monthly
Submits accurate time and travel logs as directed by management and on time
Submits accurate expense forms, if applicable, on the required day
Demonstrates organizational commitment
Adheres to departmental and company code of grooming and dress code and lab coat policies, appearing neat and clean at all times
Reports on time to work, following attendance guidelines
Answers the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, by incorporating the company name, self-identification and a helpful statement
Keeps information confidential per company and procedural policies
Communicates all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate Manager, Supervisor, Group Leader or Phlebotomy Services Rep. II for resolution. Remains polite and courteous at all time
Miscellaneous duties and responsibilities
Keeps work area neat and clean. Disposes of biohazard containers when scheduled
Help with inventories and other tasks as assigned
Stock supplies as needed
Performs department-related clerical duties when assigned
Answers phones and dispatches calls when assigned
Participates on teams and special projects when asked
All other duties as assigned, within scope of position
Must have a collection error rate of less than 1%
Must be able to collect more than 30 collections per day
Must have proficient knowledge of the Department of Transportation urine and breath alcohol collection regulations - 49 cfr part 40
Must be qualified as a trainer for urine and/or breath alcohol collections and conduct collector training
Special requirements:
Must be available for on-call collections 24/7
Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements; weekends, holidays, on call and overtime
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver license and driving record that meets Quest Diagnostics driver safety guidelines, if applicable
Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting
Qualification
Required
Customer service in a service environment
DOT Urine Drug Screen Collector (Collecting for a minimum of two (2) years)
DOT Breath Alcohol Technician (Collecting for a minimum of two (2) years)
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
Demonstrates good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
Able to manage concerns of customers and employees in a professional manner
Must have a collection error rate of less than 1%
Must be able to collect more than 30 collections per day
