Manufacturing Process Engineer (Conveyor & Warehouse Systems)

The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and standardizing manufacturing and packaging processes for conveyor systems and storage equipment, collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient production and shipment of large industrial equipment.

Responsibilities
Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for conveyor systems, racking, and warehouse automation equipment
Design and improve plant layouts, work cells, and material flow for efficient assembly and fabrication
Analyze cycle times, takt time, labor utilization, and bottlenecks to improve throughput
Support new product introductions (NPI) by defining manufacturing and packaging processes early in design
Design packaging solutions for large, heavy, or irregular conveyor and warehouse components
Ensure packaging protects products during handling, storage, and transportation while minimizing cost and waste
Collaborate with logistics to optimize palletization, crating, container loading, and freight efficiency
Ensure compliance with customer, carrier, and international shipping requirements
Lead lean manufacturing, kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives
Identify opportunities to reduce labor, material, scrap, damage, and packaging costs
Develop standard work instructions, process documentation, and visual aids
Support automation or tooling improvements to improve safety and productivity
Partner with design engineering to ensure manufacturability and packability (DFM/DFA/DFP)
Support quality teams in root cause analysis and corrective actions
Provide technical support to production and resolve manufacturing or packaging issues
Work with suppliers to improve packaging materials and manufacturing methods
Create and maintain process flows, work instructions, routings, and BOM structures
Establish packaging standards and specifications
Support PFMEA, control plans, and risk assessments
Flexibility to take on additional responsibilities aligned with departmental or organizational goals
Qualification
Required
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for creating layouts, process simulations, and tooling concepts
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for routing, BOM, and production planning activities (experience with Epicor or similar systems preferred)
Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, including Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, and waste reduction methodologies
Working knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis) preferred
Experience conducting time and motion studies, capacity analysis, and process capability studies
Ability to use process simulation tools and software to evaluate production flows and optimize layouts
Familiarity with design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/DFA) principles
Strong analytical thinking and data interpretation skills to identify process inefficiencies and recommend solutions
Ability to apply statistical tools and engineering principles to diagnose, improve, and validate manufacturing processes
Proactive in identifying potential issues before they impact production; capable of developing practical solutions with limited data
Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and eliminate root causes through structured problem-solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation and present findings
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; works effectively across functions such as Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain
Capable of leading cross-functional discussions and improvement initiatives with clarity and confidence
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrates ownership of tasks and follows through from concept to implementation
Experience managing or contributing to cross-functional projects is a plus
Successful completion of 90-day probationary period
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Packaging Engineering
3–7+ years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in conveyor systems, material handling, storage, or industrial equipment
Preferred
Experience supporting new product introductions (NPI) and transitioning products from design to production
Prior experience with conveyor systems, material handling equipment, or automated manufacturing environments
