Activities Assistant

Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest providers of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. The Activities Assistant provides group and one-to-one therapeutic recreation to all program participants, guiding and monitoring them during activities to maintain their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical functioning levels.

Responsibilities

Guides, directs, and monitors participants during group activities to assist in maintaining or surpassing his/her social, emotional, cognitive and physical levels of functioning
Assists Director with activity planning as needed
Maintains documentation in a neat and legible manner
Deals appropriately with the special needs of participants and their families
Reports any abnormal signs and/or symptoms to Nursing Manager/Supervisor and the Department Director immediately

Required

High School Diploma
A minimum of one year experience presenting activities to an aging population
Friendly, outgoing, positive personality
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of the work group, and participants
Sensitivity to the needs of an aging population
Able to speak, read and write English
Able to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job
Ensures that resident's/patient's rights are adhered to
Demonstrates professionalism and accountability
Demonstrates a caring attitude consistent with Miami Jewish EmpathicareSM toward MJH residents, patients, family members, employees, and other facility guests
Demonstrates excellent communication skills
Ensures confidentiality and security of patients' medical information
Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication
Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines
Maintains a safe working environment

Preferred

Associate's Degree
Training in Therapeutic Recreation is desirable
Computer knowledge preferred
Knowledge of documentation desirable
