Postdoctoral Associate
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in Chemistry to lead the design and development of an open-source Python-based package for predicting and analyzing spectroscopic data. The role involves synthesizing scientific and technical requirements into a development plan while collaborating with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and pursuing individual scientific interests.

Responsibilities
Lead design and development of an open-source Python-based package for the prediction and analysis of spectroscopic data
Synthesize an extensive collection of science and technical requirements into a development plan and roadmap
Lead development efforts in consultation with stakeholders
Collaborate with scientific staff at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory to identify synergies with next-generation telescopes and value-added archival data products
Devote 50% of effort to the development process and the remaining 50% to pursue personal scientific interests
Access state-of-the-art microwave spectrometers and large astronomical datasets
Mentor students and travel to meetings to present work
Qualification
Required
PhD in Astronomy/Astrophysics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
demonstrated expertise in Python
significant software development experience
Preferred
Experience with rotational spectroscopy
Experience with radio astronomy
Experience with radiative transfer calculations
Experience with machine learning
