Accountant

CompScience is a high-growth startup dedicated to preventing workplace injuries through innovative technology. As an Accountant, you will play a crucial role in processing transactions, maintaining financial records, and supporting the overall financial operations of the company.

Responsibilities

Transaction Processing: Ensure that inbound and outbound commissions, payroll, invoices, and payables are recorded accurately and processed in a timely manner
Bank/Credit Card Reconciliation: Review and reconcile bank/credit card accounts on a monthly basis
Financial Reporting: Record ad-hoc, recurring, and closing transactions each calendar month. Provide a first level review of accuracy and completeness of financial records. Maintain supporting documentation for key transactions as necessary for financial audit any management review
Expense Management: Monitor and track expenses, process invoices, and ensure timely payment of bills while adhering to budgetary guidelines
Compliance: Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
Month End Close: Support month-end closing processes with the CFO and other internal/external accounting staff
Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis: Support the financial analysis and budgeting processes, assist in the tracking of actual to budget performance and assist in identifying and explaining variances
System Management: Utilize accounting software and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Assist with system upgrades and implementations as needed
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to provide financial support and ensure smooth financial operations. Assist with special projects and ad-hoc reports as required

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in accounting
Proficiency in Quickbooks Online (QBO), online payroll systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

CPA certification or progress toward certification is preferred
Any accounting experience within an insurance agency or MGA. Additional public accounting audit experience
Any project/client-service based experience (objectives, time management, deadlines)
Systems, Operations, and process development experience
