Controls Designer

Tri-Phase Automation is a unique distributor with over 25 years of experience in the automation industry, serving manufacturing companies in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. The Controls Designer will be responsible for developing prototype control panels, supporting design requirements, and collaborating with engineering staff to implement application solutions.

Responsibilities

Works with engineering staff to determine and implement application solutions for control panels
Design schematics to UL standards from scratch based off hand sketch provided by engineers
Detail-focused and navigates manufacturer manuals to ensure correct functionality
Strong electrical schematic understanding
Acts as a liaison between the company and customers as it relates to build and design requirements
Determines the correct design, components, and wiring instructions for first-time builds and develops the documentation to take into production
Identifies improvements and enhancements to improve overall design and/or product performance
Ensures all updates and changes are identified and accurately documented for future builds. Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc
Reviews projects to ensure efficiency is maintained
Works with QC to maintain and improve on all instructions
Ensures all safety, work rules, and regulations are maintained

Machine controls knowledgeElectrical schematics experienceAutoCAD proficiencyUL test certificationWire sizing calculationsProject development abilityMachine building experienceDetail-oriented

Required

Strong knowledge of the workings of machine controls
Should understand AutoCAD or be able to quickly learn
A 2-year technical degree is desired with electrical schematics knowledge/experience. An Electrical Engineering degree is a plus
Will be required to study and pass UL test
Able to calculate wire sizing, perform heat calculations, circuit protection, etc
Detail-oriented
Ability to take an undefined project or concept and develop a controls system to support

Preferred

Machine building or maintenance experience is also a plus
