Senior Director, Legal Affairs & Risk Management

They are seeking a Senior Director, Legal Affairs and Risk Management to lead legal and risk management functions, focusing on insurance, claims, and litigation while collaborating with business leaders to address risks and support decision-making.

Responsibilities
Lead and manage commercial and general liability litigation, including case strategy, oversight of outside counsel, and participation in depositions, hearings, and conferences
Maintain and oversee the company's insurance program, including procurement, placement, and renewal of insurance policies
Provide legal guidance on general liability claims and partner with internal teams to proactively address incidents
Analyze loss data and risk management metrics and provide recommendations to senior leadership
Lead and support the Risk Management team in claims handling, risk transfer strategies, and workers' compensation matters
Advise on liability, regulatory, and insurance-related matters to minimize organizational risk
Partner with business leaders to identify and implement risk reduction strategies and support executive decision-making
Align litigation, compliance, and exposure management strategies with enterprise legal and risk management standards
Prepare and deliver reporting related to litigation exposure, insurance matters, and risk management initiatives
Draft and review relevant portions of key agreements, balancing legal risk with business objectives
Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to reduce legal and operational risk
Oversee internal investigations to preserve legal privilege and provide strategic guidance on outcomes
Design and deliver training programs related to legal compliance and risk management best practices
Collaborate cross-functionally to support business projects and translate complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders
Facilitate internal and external discovery processes, including document review and production
Review and approve standard motions and other litigation-related documents
Mentor and support junior legal and risk management team members
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualification
Required
Doctoral or professional degree
6+ years of legal practice experience, including a minimum of 2 years of in-house legal or risk management experience
Experience managing litigation and insurance procurement programs
Experience leading or significantly contributing to a risk management function
Strong legal research and writing skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
