Kelly Engineering is partnering with an early-stage medical device company developing a next-generation ophthalmic diagnostic platform. They are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Optomechanics) to lead the mechanical design of a complex optical instrument from early prototype through manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical architecture and detailed design of a precision optomechanical medical device

Design and develop mechanical subsystems including:

Optical mounts and structures

Precision mechanisms and actuators

Enclosures, skins, and cable routing

Thermal management and tooling

Perform detailed CAD design in SolidWorks, including GD&T and tolerance analysis

Build and test prototypes; troubleshoot real-world issues such as alignment drift, stray light, thermal effects, and assembly variation

Partner cross-functionally with optics, electrical, software, and systems teams to ensure full product integration

Support regulated product documentation including DHFs, verification activities, risk analyses, and engineering change orders

Define assembly processes, tolerances, and DFM/DFA strategies

Support transfer to manufacturing, including vendor selection and tooling decisions

Lead design reviews and contribute to overall technical planning
