Director of Study Abroad
Gonzaga University is a Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic institution, and they are seeking a Director of Study Abroad. The Director is responsible for the budget management and oversight of academic study abroad programs, providing leadership and guidance to the Study Abroad Office and the Gonzaga community on related matters.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include budget management and reporting, application and enrollment logistics, programming support, MOU/MOA review and management, enrollment reporting and compliance requirements, and program innovation
In addition, the Director ensures the fiscal solvency and long-term financial sustainability of all programs
The Director oversees program assessment and reporting to stakeholders
The Director collaborates with Gonzaga’s Deans of the College and Schools, graduate program directors, and faculty members in support and development of study abroad initiatives
The Director is responsible for maintaining relationships with Gonzaga on-campus offices (Student Accounts, Health & Counseling Services, Registrar’s Office, etc.)
The Director provides informative and timely communications and problem solving to students and families
The Director develops and manages relationships with partner institutions and external vendors (Terra Dotta, insurance, etc.) in support of study abroad initiatives
The Director represents the study abroad office on university committees, as well as at regional, national and/or international professional meetings
Gonzaga in Florence (GIF), established in 1963, is Gonzaga’s flagship study abroad program
The program runs semester and summer programs for undergraduates, and special programs for law and graduate programs
The Director of Study Abroad provides main campus support for the GIF Dean to ensure successful recruitment and programming for students, oversees visa compliance, and is the primary contact for GIF operational issues
The Director is responsible for maintaining and managing relationships with domestic partner institutions including recruitment and development of new partners and agreement negotiations
Conducts risk assessments for new and existing study abroad program locations
Informs faculty program leaders, University administrators and students of State Department travel advisories and safety concerns relative to program sites
Collaborates with Gonzaga’s Director of Risk Management
Ensures appropriate insurance for study abroad programs
Provides decisive leadership and makes critical operational decisions in emergency or crisis situations
Serves as Gonzaga’s emergency on-call contact for study abroad issues and communicates with appropriate personnel regarding study abroad emergencies
The Director will manage approximately 5 full-time positions related to study abroad and departmental operations including budget and fiscal management
The Director performs other duties as assigned in support of Gonzaga's mission by the Associate Provost for Global Engagement
Qualification
Required
Must maintain a valid passport
Expert in field plus broad knowledge of divisional and/or university operations
Demonstrated expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating institutional risks, with a proven ability to make informed, timely, and sometimes difficult decisions to protect organizational interests
Demonstrated ability to lead strategic budget planning processes, monitor financial performance, and implement cost-saving measures across diverse programs
Experience with international education software (e.g. Terra Dotta)
Proficient in English communication skills, written and verbal
Demonstrated time management, punctuality, and priority setting skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and regulations
High analytical capability, with ability to identify issues, compare data, and resolve discrepancies
Ability to work flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred
Master's degree
8+ years of experience in international education
Higher education experience in international education
Intermediate proficiency in another language
Membership in a professional association (e.g. NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, other)
