CONSERVATIONIST I
Caltrans District 3 is seeking a Conservationist I to supervise a crew of young adults in various conservation projects. The role involves training, evaluating, and ensuring the safety and security of state equipment, while also responding to emergencies as needed.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Supervise a crew of 8-15 Corpmembers, young adults ages 18-29, in variety conservation of related projects
Supervising duties can include nights and weekends, as assigned
Train, evaluate, and counsel the Corpsmembers that are under their supervision
Maintain the Care, Maintenance, and Security of State Equipment and Property
Perform recordkeeping and follow personnel administration guidelines
Respond to emergencies as required, including statewide & national emergencies
Qualification
Required
Supervise a crew of 8-15 Corpmembers, young adults ages 18-29, in variety conservation of related projects

Maintain the Care, Maintenance, and Security of State Equipment and Property

Respond to emergencies as required, including statewide & national emergencies
Class C Commercial License – Provide evidence that a Class C Commercial license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
Pre-employment Drug Test – In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test
Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
Medical Exam - A medical clearance exam is required for this classification
Grooming Standards- Must be in compliance with the Center's grooming standards
Preferred
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and diplomacy on the job
Ability to work well in high-pressure situations
Knowledge of youth development principles and practices
Knowledge of the Conservation Corps is preferred
