Grocery Manager

Responsibilities
Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly customer service
Assist customers by making product suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom announcements, and one-on-one customer interaction
Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately. Receive and resolve customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as needed
Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description)
Plan daily operations and monitor production processes following company procedures and profitability standards
Build grocery displays, rotate stock, and discard outdated or spoiled products. Ensure cleanliness of work area and department
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; coordinate grocery sales promotions
Ensure merchandise is correctly priced and displayed, and that shelves are clean and properly maintained
Follow and maintain department standards and requirements
Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance
Schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels
Maintain specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including but not limited to opening/closing duties, dairy, and frozen sections
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures
Identify and train employees with high potential for advancement opportunities
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department
Initiate personnel actions such as pre-employment interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions
Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every six months
Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintain inventory levels according to division directives. Stock and rotate products
Order grocery products and maintain inventory levels per division directives. Supervise reclamation processing and maintain orderly, in-stock conditions in the back room and all grocery department areas
Control shrink and cost
Implement correct product preparation techniques. Operate related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machine
Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating products. Adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines and follow proper packaging techniques. Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate department records
Accurately complete, maintain, and monitor daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork
Ensure proper temperature levels for products are maintained. Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code dating requirements
Comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations
Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display area, including code date compliance
Implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software malfunctions
Operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products
Attend and participate in sales meetings. Communicate sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department employees to ensure positive results
Comply with and ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code
Perform all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity
