Engineering Inspection Field Supervisor
The City of Durham is dedicated to serving the community and is seeking an Engineering Inspection Field Supervisor to oversee engineering inspections for construction projects. Responsibilities
Supervises engineering inspections operations for the City and private construction projects (before acceptance by the City); establishes and manages project schedules; prioritizes, assigns, and evaluates work assignments; trains staff on applicable principles, techniques, processes, and standards; prepares pay estimates; responds to emergencies; and ensures that inspections are performed in accordance with applicable plans, contracts, specifications, laws, and standards
Serves as a liaison to and coordinates with engineering staff, contractors, City departments and external agencies, to respond to complaints, questions, and concerns; assists with reviews of proposed construction drawings and as-built plans; provides specialized and general information; and facilitates related project and/or department operations
Prepares, reviews, and maintains financial, reports, records, logs, and other project and department documentation; enters data, verifying information to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures
Performs inspection duties when necessary; inspects and tests construction material quality, applications, and related procedures; performs pressure and quality tests; monitors ongoing inspections and testing; identifies, recommends and implements corrections to non-conforming issues; and issues stop-work orders, certificates of occupancy, and other documentation
As assigned, supervise paraprofessional and support staff, to include conducting performance evaluations; coordinating training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures
Reviewing and issuing construction in the right of way permits
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
Six years of engineering construction inspections experience that includes experience in civil engineering infrastructure
A valid North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record obtained within a time frame established by the City
Preferred
APWA or NCDOT certification (or City-approved equivalent)
One year of supervisory experience
