Sr. Staff Accountant
SHIELDS for Families is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations and ensure compliance with funding requirements. The role involves managing a variety of accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and grant reporting.

Responsibilities
Conduct daily accounting activities across all functional areas, including Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), Payroll (P/R), and General Ledger (G/L)
Review and process Accounts Payable, including expense coding, data entry into accounting systems, report preparation, and check processing
Prepare monthly billing invoices and fiscal reports for funding agencies
Maintain the General Ledger, including bank reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and data input
Process payroll and assist with related journal entries and reconciliations
Assist with account analysis, financial reports, and preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
Assist with the development, monitoring, and revision of organizational budgets
Develop and maintain accounting procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, county, and private contract and grant requirements
Prepare annual program cost reports for Controller review and submit finalized reports to county agencies
Review third-party subcontractor monthly billing invoices for accuracy; request corrections and missing documentation as needed
Coordinate with external auditors to complete annual financial audits and program-specific audits
Qualification
Required
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years' hands-on finance and/or accounting experience, preferably with non-profit organizations
Familiarity with computerized accounting systems; Blackbaud experience a plus
Flexible work habits with the ability to shift priorities quickly and work extended hours when needed
Must have experience with Microsoft Office products; strong Excel skills required
Preferred
Payroll system experience strongly preferred
Experience working with government contracts and grants preferred
Familiarity with cost reporting and funding agency requirements preferred
CPA or CPA-track a plus
Benefits
$2,000 Recruitment Bonus: The recruitment bonus of $2,000 will be paid in two lump sums: the first sum of $1,000 will be paid on the next regularly scheduled pay date after successful completion of 90 days of employment. The second sum of $1,000 will be paid after successful completion of 12 months of employment.
