Assistant Federal Public Defender
The National Legal Aid & Defender Association is seeking an Assistant Federal Public Defender in their Austin office. This role involves representing clients charged with federal criminal offenses and developing litigation strategies while working collaboratively with a team.

Represent clients charged with federal criminal offenses
Digesting large case files and investigative materials
Developing litigation strategies
Drafting pleadings
Conducting evidentiary hearings and trials
Working with experts and other witnesses
Supervising teams of investigators, mitigation specialists, paralegals, and legal assistants
Travel for investigation, litigation, and training
May involve foreign travel
Qualification
Required
Strong writing and oral advocacy skills
Established capacity or clearly demonstrated aptitude for excellence in criminal defense practice
Commitment to the representation of indigent accused people
Reputation for integrity
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, colleagues, staff, and court and agency personnel
Team-oriented
Skills for collaboration, strategic litigation, compassionate representation, and unique approaches to the issues affecting clients
Preferred
Three to five years of federal criminal trial experience
