Lead Engineer - Aerodynamics
GE Aerospace Research is focused on innovating the future of flight and ensuring safety in aviation. As a Lead Engineer - Aerodynamics, you will develop technologies to enhance the aerodynamic performance of aircraft engines and participate in cutting-edge research and development projects.

Responsibilities
Independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary project team lead and execute tasks to develop technologies for next generation aircraft engines
Lead and participate in high fidelity computational analyses (e.g., Large Eddy Simulations) to guide design improvements in installed propulsor aerodynamics, aero-mechanics and aero-acoustics. You may use both proprietary and commercial CFD and multiphysics solvers
Develop ideas and concepts to improve aerodynamic, aero-mechanical and aero-acoustic performance and operability of propulsor components
Patent your inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals
Lead and participate in validation & verification efforts to advance computational methodologies and/or to demonstrate new technologies. This may require working with experimentalists to ensure high quality data acquisition
Prepare and participate in project and technical reviews. Communicate status reports and deliver presentations and publications to GE Aerospace Research and Engineering staff as well as external agencies
Provide expertise to help resolve technical challenges across the organization
Qualification
Required
Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with at least 3 years of relevant experience
Experience and knowledge of aerodynamics and high-fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods to model flows in and around aircraft engine components
Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical flow phenomena
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Good communication skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
Preferred
At least 5 years of post-PhD industrial or research experience in two or more of the following areas: turbomachinery aerodynamics, aero-mechanics, aero-acoustics, high-fidelity simulations of aircraft or propulsion systems
Experience in meshing & using engineering simulation/analysis tools (e.g., Fluent) to model flows in aircraft engine components
Excellent programming skills including expertise with FORTRAN, C++ and Python
Passion for science and technology and clear evidence of innovation and creativity
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
