Program Specialist III

NEOGOV is seeking a Program Specialist III to work with the Mississippi State Department of Health. The role focuses on educating parents and caregivers about child passenger safety and involves conducting workshops, inspections, and community outreach activities.

Responsibilities

Include educating parents and caregivers about the importance of using appropriate car seats, booster seats, and seat belts for children of different ages and sizes
Experience in community outreach and community engagement
Willing to travel within the Gulf Coast counties
Conduct workshops, surveys, and focus groups, seminars and presentations to inform the public about child passenger safety laws and best practices
Offer one on one assistance to families on selecting, installing and using child safety seats correctly
Conduct car seat inspections, distributing seats as needed to eligible clients
Conduct publicized community child safety checkpoint events in MSDH districts as needed
Meet with team members twice a month via Zoom
Run weekly (online) Safe Riders Magnolia Application report
Collaborate with the OP Team coordinator to arrange external referrals
Attend mandatory, quarterly OP Task Force meeting with program funders and other subgrantees, through dial in phone method

Required

Knowledge of child passenger safety, along with having child passenger safety technician certification; or willing to take the 4 - day course/pass within 90 days of being hired
Understand the guidelines and best practices regarding child passenger safety, so long as the law is followed
Be familiar with state laws regarding child passenger safety
Be familiar with State and Federal grant guidelines within a grant
Have excellent communication and customer service skills and organizational skills
Experience in programs working with caregivers, parents and children
Working knowledge of computer operations: efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to maintain detailed records
Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines
Ability to deal tactfully and appropriately with local, state, and federal agencies and officials
Ability to coordinate with other departments and work well with others in a variety of settings
Ability to communicate effectively

Preferred

Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience
Current Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification
