The Safety Intern supports the project safety team in promoting a strong safety culture across active construction sites while gaining exposure to safety practices and compliance in heavy civil construction operations.

Responsibilities

Assist with daily site safety walks and hazard identification

Support Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Pre-Task Plans

Observe and help reinforce safe work practices in the field

Participate in incident investigations and near-miss reporting (under supervision)

Support safety orientations for new hires, visitors, and subcontractors

Assist with tracking safety training, certifications, and sign-in documentation

Help maintain OSHA, EM-385, and project-specific safety documentation

Support compliance with client, regulatory, and company safety requirements

Assist with preparation and delivery of toolbox talks and safety stand-downs

Help post safety signage, notices, and updates throughout the jobsite

Participate in weekly safety meetings with project leadership

Maintain safety logs, inspection forms, and corrective action tracking

Assist with audit preparation and follow-up documentation

Enter safety data into company systems as required

Shadow Safety Coordinators, Site Safety Managers, and Superintendents

Gain exposure to heavy equipment operations, confined space, excavation, concrete, and utility work

Participate in mentorship check-ins and internship development activities

Required

Currently enrolled in or recently completed a program in: Safety Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field

Strong interest in construction safety and field operations

Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and active construction environments

Willingness to travel to project sites assigned

Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
