Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of engineers in Mechanical Design; manage performance evaluations, professional growth and resource allocations across multiple programs
Ensure all hardware designs meet Design Assurance Level (DAL) requirements; oversee creation and approval of PHACs, HDPs, and Hardware Accomplishment Summaries
Oversee and guide mechanical strategies for EMI shielding and structural/environmental survivability including shock, vibration, and thermal analysis
Support System Engineering in formal Design Reviews (PDR/CDR); approve mechanical drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing processes (DFM/DFA) to ensure production scalability and repeatability
Bid and forecast resource needs; manage department budgets and oversee project schedules to ensure on-time delivery
Earned Value Management (EVM):
Plan and track mechanical engineering scope, schedule, and cost performance in alignment with program Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and budgets
Support development and execution of work packages, budgets, and estimates-to-complete (ETC/EAC) for mechanical efforts
Provide earned value inputs, variance explanations, and corrective actions to Program Management for cost and schedule performance (CPI/SPI)
Develop technical approaches, processes, and products; drive Design for Excellence (DFx) including manufacturability, testability, and reliability in coordination with Systems Engineering
Partner with Program Management, Systems, Software, and Electrical Engineering to align hardware development with overall system architecture and customer requirements

Required

Provides technical leadership by directing a team of electro-mechanical engineers in the design, packaging, and structural analysis of complex defense training solutions
Oversees the mechanical lifecycle from conceptual design through environmental qualification, ensuring all hardware survives the rigorous demands of MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160
Manages resources, budgets, schedules and earned value performance while mentoring staff to drive engineering excellence across mechanical assemblies, thermal management, and electrical hardware
