Destination 2D is a nanotechnology process and equipment startup focused on semiconductor technology. They are seeking an In-House IP Counsel to lead patent drafting and management for their extensive semiconductor patent portfolio, converting R&D ideas into robust filings.

Responsibilities

Perform extensive patent drafting for innovations: write detailed specifications, create/oversee drawings and figures, and draft strong claims in materials, processes, equipment, and architectures

Manage patent lifecycle emphasizing idea harvesting from R&D, prior art review, full application drafting, and prosecution coordination across USPTO, EPO, and Asian offices

Partner directly with founders, engineers, and product teams to capture technical concepts and draft filings protecting graphene interconnects and related tech

Perform prior art searches, patentability checks, and landscape reviews to inform drafting for CMOS-compatible graphene, BEOL integration, and advanced materials

Coordinate with external counsel on filings, office actions, appeals, providing draft-based technical guidance

Handle IP in NDAs, joint developments, and partnerships, incorporating drafted assets and trade secrets

Required

JD or equivalent, active U.S. bar membership, eligible for CA in-house practice

7+ years patent experience with hands-on drafting (specs, drawings, figures, claims) in semiconductors, materials science, or deep-tech hardware

Technical degree (B.S./M.S./Ph.D.) required in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related, with deep semiconductor and materials expertise (e.g., IC fab, interconnects)

Experience drafting/managing 100+ applications, prioritizing per business needs

Global filing coordination and office action responses in complex tech

Excellent skills translating R&D tech into precise drafts for startup pace
