The Director of Business Development is responsible for generating and growing new client relationships through trusted relationships and consultative engagement, focusing on opportunity development rather than transactional sales.

Responsibilities
Build and deepen relationships with nonprofit executives, board leaders, and senior development professionals
Leverage existing networks and referral channels while expanding reach into new nonprofit audiences
Lead high-trust conversations around executive and fundraising leadership needs
Advise nonprofit leaders on hiring strategy, organizational readiness, and risk mitigation
Combine relationship-based development with thoughtful, CRM-driven outreach (email and LinkedIn)
Use data, research, and AI-assisted personalization to support targeted, human-centered outreach
Own the full business development lifecycle—from initial conversation through signed engagement
Build and manage a sustainable pipeline aligned with firm growth goals
Represent Charity Search Group’s values, reputation, and approach in all external interactions
Collaborate closely with internal search consultants and leadership to ensure a strong handoff and client experience
Qualification
Required
Deep nonprofit fluency
Understanding of how nonprofit leaders make decisions
Credibility, discretion, and relationship-building skills
Experience in generating and growing client relationships
Ability to engage Executive Directors, CEOs, Board members, and senior development leaders
Experience in consultative engagement and opportunity development
Ability to lead high-trust conversations around executive and fundraising leadership needs
Experience advising nonprofit leaders on hiring strategy, organizational readiness, and risk mitigation
Ability to combine relationship-based development with CRM-driven outreach
Experience using data, research, and AI-assisted personalization for outreach
Ownership of the full business development lifecycle
Ability to build and manage a sustainable pipeline aligned with firm growth goals
Ability to represent Charity Search Group's values, reputation, and approach in external interactions
Experience collaborating with internal search consultants and leadership
