Responsibilities
Be able to follow, train others and provide technical oversight and support for all procedures and protocols pertaining to patient sample processing, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing
Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and Next Generation Sequencing on patient specimens including all steps from sample processing to result reporting as per standard operating procedures at Genome Insight
Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations by preparing for and helping conduct applications, inspections and internal audits
Plan, document and execute assay validation studies of laboratory developed tests
Demonstrate ability to maintain competency while supporting the management of the clinical laboratory
Escalate issues to upper management with discretion and independent judgement
Perform optimization and process improvement with cross functional teams as needed by meeting, planning and documenting experiments and implementing these changes into the clinical laboratory
Schedule the laboratory staff to complete the daily tasks to meet established turn around times
Qualification
Required

Preferred
Possesses a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or higher
Must possess an active, valid CLS or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license issued by the state of California
At least 3 years previous NGS experience is required
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations
Capable of excelling within a team environment; accomplishing assigned workload and any additional project(s) daily
Ability to communicate effectively, be highly organized, have attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
Display a strong sense of urgency, accountability and responsibility for self
Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Troubleshoot instruments and resolve technical problems whenever possible, document corrective action(s), and report problems to Supervisor
Ability to lift 15-20 pounds
Some repetitive pipetting will be required
