Responsibilities
Oversees and assures the overall compliance of Microsoft’s Energy Isolation Program and establish acceptance criteria for authorizing campus Energy Isolation Plan
Implements learnings, provides consistency, and drives rigor into Microsoft’s Energy Isolation program and ensures program meets or exceeds company safety policy requirements
Utilise local code and standards as the foundation for Microsoft’s Energy Isolation program that is implemented throughout the campus
Establish with the Engineering team a centralized Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedure with all campus entities and determine if a group or individual LOTO procedure will be required
Commencement of energy isolation activities with updates on a continuous basis
Liaise with Microsoft construction team where Energy Isolation activities may potentially impact data center core operations
Act in coordination with the Engineering team as a subject matter expert in all energy isolation incident investigations in area of responsibility
Participate in high-risk activity (HRA) planning meetings associated with energy isolation
Ensures high-risk SOWs, SOPs and MOPs are reviewed, and all sources of energy are identified
Ensure a process is established that verifies qualifications, training, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for personnel performing the work
Generate monthly reports highlighting activities and general status of energy isolation program
Qualification
Required
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements
Criminal Justice Information Services: This position may require passing a background check conducted through the CJIS criminal justice information system by authorized local, state, and/or federal agencies
Preferred
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent hands-on experience in critical environments and energy isolation safety
Minimum 3+ years of technical experience in mission-critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, industrial plants, etc.), including direct involvement with energy isolation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and hazardous energy control
Demonstrated expertise in electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA 10) and practical application of safe work practices for high-risk electrical and mechanical activities
Proven ability to develop, review, and audit technical procedures (MOPs, SOPs, MSOWs) and ensure compliance with Microsoft and local safety standards
Experience leading or facilitating technical safety training, onboarding, and mentorship for technicians and engineers
Strong incident response and risk management skills, including root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives
Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, system redundancies, and construction documentation to ensure effective design and execution of isolation procedures
Familiarity with building management systems (BMS), automation controls, and frameworks for monitoring and maintaining MEP systems
Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and for collaborating across cross-functional teams (Operations, EHS, Engineering, Construction)
Experience supporting or leading audits, field observations, and compliance tracking using digital tools (e.g., EHS Enablon, Power Apps)
