Development & Communications Director

Center for Human Services (CHS) is seeking a creative organized, and relationship-focused Development and Communications Director to join our passionate and collaborative Development team. This Senior Leadership position will play a critical role in driving the success of the organization by ensuring the achievement of its fundraising, stewardship, donor development, and communication goals.

Responsibilities

Direct agency fundraising, stewardship, donor development, communications and brand management efforts with assistance from department staffing
Work with Senior Leadership Team, identified staff, and Board of Directors to develop annual department plans that reflect priorities and current needs of the agency
Provide direction and serve as primary editor for all agency publications and communications tools, including but not limited to press releases, social media content, newsletters, brochures, fliers, and the annual Community Report
Serve as the agency media contact and direct applicable requests to the Executive Director, as needed and is appropriate
Oversee grant and contract proposal writing to generate funds for the agency as necessary and indicated
Actively engage in community activities in alignment with the agency’s mission, vision, and scope of work, representing the agency, and updating Senior Leadership regularly on developing opportunities, trends, and the current community climate
Provide facility tours to vested stakeholders, donors, prospective donors, Board members, prospective Board members, and other identified constituents
Prepare department annual budget and monitor monthly financial activity reports
Coordinate the development and maintenance of the department database reports, forms contracts and correspondence
Supervise department employees, including but not limited to: Provide guidance and oversight into their day-to-day responsibilities. Mentor them to grow into their roles for their benefit as well as that of the agency. Work in partnership with the staff to develop appropriate, individual professional development plans to augment their skills that will benefit them as well as the agency. Conduct their annual performance evaluations, including making recommendations to their compensation and benefits during the annual budgeting process. Provide constructive discipline, if necessary, in compliance with the Center for Human Services Employee Handbook
Serve as a member of Senior Leadership
Serve as staff liaison to Board of Directors Development Committee
Maintain active membership in A.F.P (Association of Fundraising Professionals)
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

BA/BS degree and/or 7 years or more of experience in fund development, communications, public relations, marketing and/or a related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree
Strong relational and administrative skills with a proven ability to work well with teams and independently
Expertise in strategy development, execution, and effective impact evaluation
Excellent verbal, written and communication skills including facilitation and public speaking
Excellent computer skills including desktop publishing, donor CRM databases, social media management and the Microsoft Office Suite
Pass agency paid criminal justice screening including fingerprints
Pass agency paid TB (Tuberculosis) screening
Pass agency paid health screening and/or drug testing, if required
Valid California driver's license and proof of auto insurance coverage, required
Pass agency paid MVR clearance with no more than 2 points – if you are under the age of 25 our insurance company will not allow any points

Preferred

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) accreditation preferred
Demonstrated accomplishment in major gift acquisition, planned giving, grant writing, special events, and donor stewardship preferred
