Crime Analyst

Hays County is seeking a Crime Analyst who will be responsible for analyzing and disseminating data related to criminal activity. The role involves supporting criminal investigations and departmental operations through various analytical tasks and maintaining effective communication with law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

Collects, collates, analyzes, evaluates, and disseminates crime data through reports and bulletins to identify trends, patterns, and changes in criminal activity
Performs administrative, tactical, strategic, and intelligence analysis in support of criminal investigations and departmental planning and operations
Creates target profiles and assists with gathering intelligence for on-going investigations
Conducts a variety of statistical and descriptive analyses using software tools
Produces computer generated maps to display criminal activity geographically throughout Hays County
Facilitates the transfer of crime information between analysts, units, districts, and divisions for multiple agencies throughout the county
Monitors developments in the field of crime analysis and intelligence by attending meetings, training classes and seminars
Assists with case preparations, expunctions, and general file maintenance
Maintains logs needed to pass audits required by multiple law enforcement resources
Maintains strict confidentiality of all records and data reviewed and analyzed
Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with county employees, representatives of other agencies, and the public
Requires the employee to be able to render credible testimony in any court proceeding to include Justice Courts, County Courts, District Courts, and any U.S. Federal Court
Requires initiative, critical thinking, an inquisitive nature, along with the ability to interact with different teams
Requires the ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities and methodologies
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Under general supervision, the Crime Analyst follows standardized principles, practices, and procedures in receiving, storing, analyzing, and/or releasing data related to criminal activity
The employee will act as a point of contact for citizens, officers, and attorneys
The Crime Analyst affects the physical well-being of the citizens of Hays County and the employee must have a strong work ethic, follow directions, meet deadlines, be reliable and punctual, take initiative, and conduct themselves honestly, morally, and with a high level of integrity
This position works at the pleasure of the Elected Official

Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
Must obtain Telecommunicator License within one (1) year

Preferred

Preferred graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Criminal Justice, Statistics, Business, Public Administration, Social Science, or in a field related to the job
Two (2) years experience in research, analysis, and interpretation of law enforcement data or a related field. Each additional year of experience, more than the required two (2) years, may be substituted for thirty semester hours on a year-for-year basis
Master's degree may be substituted for experience up to the two (2) years
