Manufacturing Process Engineer III
Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm based out of the Pacific Northwest. The Manufacturing Process Engineer III develops and optimizes complex processes for prototyping and low-volume R&D manufacturing of electro-mechanical systems, ensuring prototypes are built efficiently and with exceptional quality.

Responsibilities
Design and implement advanced processes and assembly methods for prototype and low-volume electro-mechanical systems
Create process flows, work instructions, and fixture/tooling specifications that enable efficient prototype builds and testing
Provide expert Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) input during early product development
Lead process development and validation activities for new technologies and materials in an R&D setting
Architect assembly and test tooling, including defining requirements, reviewing designs, and overseeing implementation
Partner with cross-functional teams to iterate quickly on process concepts and troubleshoot technical issues in real time
Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, improve build repeatability, and increase efficiency — tailored to a prototype environment
Serve as the technical lead for complex build programs, ensuring processes meet quality, cost, and schedule targets
Mentor junior engineers and technicians in process design, documentation, and build best practices
Interface directly with customers and internal project teams to communicate technical solutions and recommendations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Master's preferred
5+ years of related Process Engineering experience
Proven ability to integrate mechanical and electrical systems in small-batch or one-off builds
Strong command of DFM/DFA principles and practical experience influencing design decisions
Skilled in fixture/tooling development, process documentation, and build optimization
Proficient with CAD software and process simulation tools
Knowledge of quality systems, process validation, and root cause analysis methods
Experienced in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, adapted for flexible, non-production workflows
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including direct client engagement and cross-functional collaboration
Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and ability to mentor others in a fast-paced R&D setting
Proficient in MS Office and GSuite; familiarity with Jira is a plus
