Cyber Software Development Engineer

Contract Professionals, Inc. (CPI) is a staffing and consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services. They are seeking an Embedded Cyber Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and sustain embedded cyber work products for Ground Combat Vehicle programs.

Responsibilities

Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles to develop embedded software for target hardware platforms
Support cyber and C5ISR architecture, product development, evaluation, testing, and compliance activities
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define and evaluate hardware-software interfaces and system performance requirements
Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and formal testing
Develop and maintain software tools, scripts, and XML files to implement and verify system configurations
Ensure software applications comply with accreditation, cybersecurity, and configuration control requirements
Develop data and message protocol transformation mechanisms to enable interoperability across multiple data-sharing domains
Develop embedded software in Security-Enhanced Linux or VxWorks environments
Perform low-level programming for operating system internals, BSPs, and device drivers
Integrate and configure firewalls and cybersecurity protections for embedded systems
Conduct peer reviews, identify defects, and support defect tracking and resolution
Support cyber test design, environments, and tools, including trade studies and structured technical decisions
Develop and review design artifacts, checkpoints, milestone documentation, and Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables
Support system-level trade studies balancing capability, cost, schedule, reliability, and performance across C5ISR vehicle platforms

Required

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
Degree must be from an ABET-accredited institution
U.S. citizenship required
Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance or higher required at time of hire
Experience developing and implementing cybersecurity measures for embedded systems
Experience with embedded systems in automotive and/or military environments
Ability to work non-standard hours or weekends as required by program needs
Must meet anthropometric size requirements for military vehicle access, including climbing on vehicles and passing through hatches

Preferred

Preferred fields include Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
Strong proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, or Rust, with emphasis on embedded systems
Experience with Linux or VxWorks operating system internals
Experience with Board Support Packages (BSPs) and hardware-software integration
Experience developing low-level device drivers
Knowledge of network protocols and interfaces including TCP/IP, UART, SPI, and I2C
Experience with reverse engineering and software analysis
Familiarity with integrated development environments, version control systems, defect tracking tools, scripting, and CI/CD pipelines
Experience interpreting customer requirements and flowing them down into technical implementations
Familiarity with electrical line replaceable units (LRUs) and electronic hardware troubleshooting
Cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH) are a plus
