Senior Mechanical Engineer (xEV Inverter Hardware) - R0088311
Astemo America is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of xEV inverter and power control unit technologies. This role is responsible for interpreting customer system requirements and collaborating with a global engineering team to deliver high-performance inverter solutions tailored to specific applications.

Responsibilities
Lead or support mechanical packaging development for new xEV inverter programs within Astemo America
Plan and manage activities across multiple projects to ensure timely and successful delivery
Analyze customer requirements and work with global teams to deliver optimal inverter designs for various vehicle platforms
Serve as the key technical liaison between OEM customers, internal design teams in the U.S. and Japan, manufacturing sites, and suppliers
Collaborate with design engineering teams on new product development, existing product enhancements, performance validation, and production launch activities
Develop or oversee 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and CAE simulations to support mechanical design
Provide hands-on engineering support during prototype builds, sample preparation, and mass production at internal and external manufacturing sites
Participate in pricing and quoting processes by supporting cost investigations and BOM estimations
Prepare technical documentation and reports using standard software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, CAD, CAE)
Support product validation, testing, and prototyping throughout the development lifecycle
Lead or support VEC (Value Engineering Cost) activities post-SOP to reduce costs or improve quality
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in the design of automotive powertrain components (xEV inverters strongly preferred)
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation (SolidWorks or CATIA preferred)
Experience with mechanical CAE tools for thermal and structural analysis
Familiarity with electrified vehicle systems and inverter integration
Proven experience collaborating with customers and suppliers to communicate technical requirements and resolve issues
Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills
Understanding of key quality and design methodologies such as GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, DFMEA, DRBFM, and DFSS
Preferred
Direct experience developing automotive inverters or comparable power electronic devices
Experience supporting product cost estimation and quotation activities
Bilingual in English and Japanese is a strong plus
Demonstrated success managing product development from concept to launch
