Responsibilities
Develop designs for complex engineering systems
Prepare drawings and technical reports
Participate in the development of design standards and procedures
Perform technical review of design documents and specifications
Provide engineering services support to construction activities
Prepare and review design standards and procedures
Prepare construction installation specifications and details
Prepare procurement specifications and perform bid analysis
Review and approve Design Change Forms
Resolve existing design discrepancies using cost-effective solutions to meet design criteria
Initiate Design Change Forms and coordinate with subcontractors or other responsible groups for approval/incorporation
Provide dispositions to Nonconformance Reports and Field Problem Memos by determining solutions that satisfy design criteria
Perform inspections of facilities, systems, or components as required for proper evaluation of conditions
Review construction procedures to ensure compliance with design engineering criteria and applicable codes
Perform in-depth analyses of advanced technical concepts and devise new approaches to technical problems
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in a technical discipline and at least 10–12 years of work experience, OR 12–16 years of practical work experience
In-depth knowledge of engineering systems, applications, calculations, materials, and construction methods
Proficiency in relevant computer applications
Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to resolve problems identified by construction organizations in a timely manner
Must stay updated on new technologies and hardware in the industry
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' security clearance
Minimum 8 years of experience as a Structural Designer
Experience with structural detailing and design of building structures and commodity supports
Knowledge of 3D structural modeling and experience using Hexagon's S3D software
Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards for structural design
Ability to perform field walk-downs, which may include: Construction sites with uneven surfaces and ongoing work, Walking distances over half a mile, Climbing ladders to access remote areas, Dressing in protective clothing as needed
Ability to produce quality documents with strong attention to detail
Preferred
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred
Previous Nuclear Design Engineering or DOE facility experience
